In this research, we will build a library material recommendation system that promotes self-study by implementing a link function and feedback function with the library system in the digital teaching material distribution system BookRoll.

BookRoll can display textbooks, slides, and other teaching materials on the viewer’s PC during lectures and preview and review sessions. The interaction logging function also can record and analyze the browsing page, browsing time, and marker locations as learning logs. By implementing the library material recommendation function in BookRoll, reference materials from Kyoto University institutional repository, KURENAI, that are related to the teaching materials are displayed to the learners with an objective to deepen their interest in the learning content.

We will implement a function that automatically recommends new collections and research articles from the library system to BookRoll, and allow students to add comments to the recommended library materials. In addition, we will implement a dashboard that gives feedback to faculty members on the usage of library materials recommended by BookRoll.

The above functions enables to automatically analyze the usage status of recommended library materials that are linked to the BookRoll teaching materials. It helps to investigate What kind of library materials are available and linked to the teaching materials?, Who are the university students who have positive effect on their learning behaviors and improvement of grades? In parallel it is also possible to analyze the learning log and provide the status and guide for self-study.

Our system makes it possible to provide an educational approach where recommended learning content aim to further satisfy and deepen students’ interests and also provide them information that promotes self-study.

In this research, we will build a library material […]

Expected effect
